Despite its hardness, enamel deteriorates with surprising ease. There are certain foods that should be avoided whenever possible to protect your enamel.
Most dentists recommend not take many sodas, and this includes diet. This is due to both the sugar and the acid may dissolve the enamel. Gaseous with citrus flavors have higher acid levels and therefore are more harmful. Sports and energy drinks can also contain high levels of acids, so you should also avoid as much as possible.
You should also be careful when drinking juice or eating citrus fruits because these foods contain high levels of acid. Unlike soda, fruit juice and citrus fruits have health benefits, so it is not advisable to suspend all.
Instead, consume them in moderation and with other foods that do not contain acids to neutralize their effects. Vinegar contributes to the deterioration of the enamel, due to its content of acids. Use prudently vinegar based dressings on salads or eating chips and other products high in vinegar.
Finally, try to avoid sweets whenever possible. Most candies contain high sugar levels, which increase the risk of damage to the enamel.
